West Elm celebrates International Women’s Day
This Women’s History Month—and all year round—we’re proud to stand behind three of IWD’s core missions: to elevate visibility for women at work, champion opportunities for women’s empowerment and bolster women creatives.
BSR’s HERproject™
HERproject™ implements health and finance training for women in global supply chains. The result? Higher self-confidence, shifted perceptions of gender norms and an increased involvement in household financial decision-making.
Engaging men in the conversation of empowerment is essential to gender equality. That’s why we run HERproject™ programs with our male factory workers, too.
West Elm + HERproject™ by the numbers:
5

Nest’s Ethical Handcraft™ Program
We collaborate with artisans around the world to help create sustainable employment opportunities, especially for women in rural areas.
In 2014, we partnered with Nest—the leading advocate for artisans and makers globally—and became the first-ever retailer to use their Seal of Ethical Handcraft, certifying Ethically Handcrafted™ items. Nest ensures that home- and workshop-based production is safe and viable with training programs that prioritize artisans’ social and economic well-being.
Our Nest Ethical Handcraft™ collection now spans more than 400 pieces, and we’re committed to investing $50M by 2025.
