West Elm celebrates Black History Month

For more than 50 years, Black History Month has recognized the achievements of Black people in America. This February (and beyond), join us in celebrating Black creatives, makers and designers and supporting social equity movements.

Meet our partners

Black people make up 15% of the U.S. population. The 15 Percent Pledge calls on major retailers to dedicate 15% of their shelf space to Black-owned brands—shifting almost $10B of revenue to Black-owned businesses to date. This month, help further its mission as we continue our Pledge.

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is America’s first and largest grassroots-based civil rights organization. With over 2,000 volunteer branches nationwide, NAACP works to disrupt inequality, dismantle racism and accelerate change in criminal justice, health care, education and more.

Help us champion Black founders, makers and artists. When you shop LOCAL this month, 50% of the proceeds* will support the 15 Percent Pledge and NAACP.

“The 15 Percent Pledge was launched out of a need for increased representation in the workforce and financial equity for Black-owned businesses.”

—Aurora James, founder

In July 2020, we committed to the 15 Percent Pledge across our brand collaborations, West Elm LOCAL shelf space and hiring practices. As the first home retailer to take the pledge, we’re dedicated to making both an immediate and sustained impact.
