The power of ten
When her son, Diego, hit the big 1-0, Mother Mag’s Katie Hintz-Zambrano redesigned his room so it reflects his current passions (reading, gaming, knitting) and will adapt as he ages.

Leveled-up look
Diego’s room is small—about 100 square feet—so Katie wanted to maintain as much floor space and sunlight as possible. “A storage bed that fits all his clothes is super important,” she says. “It allows us not to have a dresser.” Diego also has a vast collection of books, and he and his mom love that shallow shelves let them see the variety, and that the covers double as wall art.

Adding a desk felt like a “big kid move,” Katie says. “His last year of elementary school will be about honing independence and study skills.”

“I like rooting all the colors with versatile and classic all-white pieces that’ll grow with him forever.”
