Chicago-based real estate development firm Shapack Partners designs an office for 25 with a residential feel

Making real estate real

For his firm’s office renovation, Shapack CEO Jeff Shapack wanted a space that was reminiscent of sitting in a hotel. His team partnered with the West Elm Business to Business team design lounge-style areas for chatting, versus traditional desks and pods. “This type of space allows us to collaborate—both internally and externally—in a much warmer environment,” Jeff says.

“A hospitality atmosphere is what makes you feel good about the place where you work.”—Jeff Shapack

Creative collaboration

The partnership was so successful that it inspired West Elm to take its business offerings further. “At West Elm, we apply a residential design perspective to create inspirational and inviting spaces,” said Dave Veeneman, Director for West Elm Business to Business. “We understand the challenge it can be for a business to not only think about moving or expanding their space, but to also do that while running a business.”

“In a post-pandemic world, this is how we should welcome people back,” says Jeff. “When you create this type of space it gives people a little of what they’re used to from being at home.”
